GAINESVILLE — After getting a look across Clay’s gym at one another at the Clay Rotary last weekend, Buchholz and Columbia closed down their 2015-16 dual seasons with a vantage point that was much closer up.

The host Bobcats took advantage of five Tiger forfeits, winning five of the eight contested matches for a 57-21 victory Tuesday night.

Buchholz (21-8) had four falls on the night, with Joey Klenck (113), Tommy Howell (132), Gant Moore (138) and Gerald Rushing (170) winning by pins and Bryan Perkins (106) taking a 7-2 decision.

Columbia (9-8) answered with two pins from Chace Curtis (120) and Kody Waldron (145), with Austin Chapman bumping up to 160 for an 8-5 decision.

The Tigers will hit the district mats first, on February 19, for 2A-District 2 at Lincoln with a 3 p.m. start time. Buchholz will travel to Flagler Palm Coast for the 3A-District 1 meet on February 20, with a 10 a.m. start.

Tornadoes sweep FSDB quad: At St. Augustine, Bradford took dual wins over the hosts (36-21), Terry Parker (42-24) and University Christian (36-12).

Antonio Urolia (120, 3 pins), Jason Griffis (126, 2 pins), Adam Wilson (132), Dylan Drow (138, 2 pins), Andrew Hetler (145, 2 pins) and Eddie McCormick (220, 1 pin) all were 3-0 for Bradford (16-13).

University Christian (6-13) was 2-1 on the night, with wins over Parker (30-24) and FSDB (33-30). Michael Marshall (182/195) was 3-0 with two pins, while Daniel Porter (113) was 3-0, also with two falls.

The Dragons (5-19) did get a win over the Braves (9-23) in the final dual of the night for both teams, 42-24.

Jennifer Serrano (106) was the lone FSDB wrestler to go 3-0, while Boakai Kanneh (152, 1 pin) and Matthew Walls (285) both were 3-0 for Terry Parker.

I covered wrestling for 15 years up north and "retired" in 2011. But as I thought I had in 1992, I couldn't stay away. Started Northeast Florida Matmen in 2013, Northwest Florida Matmen in 2015. New initiative this year is to create a space on my sites where ALL Florida results can be stored, searched, reviewed and used by my readers, with NO COST TO THEM.
