Wheels Turning

Prove me wrong today, 2A-District 4 kids.

I have another 2 previews done and in the pipeline (1A-District 5  for first thing Thursday and 2A-District 2 for first thing Friday). 1A-District 2 will be next.

The “final” regular-season rankings are out. Lots of ineligible teams. Lots of time to clean that up over the next 3 weeks. Had to show that I mean what I say when I indicate, multiple times, that I need results back. I’ve had a panel of coaches give me some advice on some things, and their take is, if the results are missing that long, just stop writing about that particular team. That’s pretty hard cheese, and I don’t relish the idea of it, but that is a possibility for next year.

We do have some things that need to be cleaned up. There will be, sprinkled in with the district posts, recaps on girls’ state and JV state and Gainesville at Villages. Just had to get the preview wheels turning. Still six more to do.

Last thing. I’ve asked you to consider saving the date of March 19. I have a small group of readers working with me to consider improvements for the site. This advisory group is looking at technological improvements to advance the site (and funding for same), helping me with process changes — how I do what I do, how to do it better or more efficiently (sometimes more efficiently is better, sometimes I like my old way better). To that end, we are going to have a fundraiser for the site on March 19.

That date is the date for the finals of the NCAAs. Watch parties go on everywhere. Why not have a big one here? You can watch me yell at the TV screens when an Iowa kid is on the mat. You can watch your favorite team, which naturally should be Iowa because reasons. And if you’ve ever wondered — or outright asked me — how you can help the site, this is that opportunity. We don’t have a for-sure venue picked out yet, but a few places are in play. I would love to see lots of delegations show up, to show people that wrestling DOES matter. That YOUR work matters. That THIS work matters.

Don’t prove me wrong on that one.

I covered wrestling for 15 years up north and "retired" in 2011. But as I thought I had in 1992, I couldn't stay away. Started Northeast Florida Matmen in 2013, Northwest Florida Matmen in 2015. New initiative this year is to create a space on my sites where ALL Florida results can be stored, searched, reviewed and used by my readers, with NO COST TO THEM.
