Four collegiate wrestlers with area connections are ranked in the top 15 in their respective weight classes among 2016-17 NCWA competitors, according to preseason rankings that came out midweek this week.
Cole Schreiber (Columbia ’13) is beginning the preseason ranked #11 at 141 pounds for the University of Florida NCWA team. Schreiber was a 2A state finalist for the Tigers in 2013 and is a senior at Florida.
UNF senior Dean Porreca is ranked 14th for the Ospreys at 184. Porreca is the only UNF wrestler to receive a preseason national ranking.
Rory Roderick (Oakleaf ’13) is ranked 15th for South Florida’s club team at 125. As a senior for the Knights, Roderick was one match short of the state tournament. He is a senior this year for the Bulls.
Finally, Daniel Devers, who started his high school career at Columbia but later moved out of state, is ranked ninth as a sophomore for Middle Tennessee, also at 184.
Among teams, Central Florida stands in 2nd place among NCWA Division 1 teams, with Florida tied for seventh and South Florida tied for 9th. In Division 2, Florida A&M is tied for 13th place.
