The Calendar Has Flipped

The long national nightmare is about to be over.

No, not THAT national nightmare. No, the REAL one.

Practice starts next month. Our first dual is next month.

So the wheels start to turn a little faster. We added a couple more events to the Preseason page, two for this Saturday and one for October 15 as we added the Yulee date.

We have another schedule to post shortly, and I would guess — particularly since we’re going to be updating our “blast” emails to coaches to weekly now — more will come in. Some have already told me why they can’t, and that’s all good (especially those coaches caught up with fall sports). There are several coaches from whom I have heard nothing since the end of last season (one just checked in with me today). Hopefully, they’ll reach out soon, one way or the other, because the season will move forward either way.

7 1/2 weeks to TurkeyNWrestling 2016. We have more schedules so far this year than we did at this point last year. We still are missing some big ones, from powerhouse teams and teams where I haven’t heard from the coaches at all. They’ll all get here, but it’s always nice when it’s sooner rather than later.

I’m hearing a lot of grapevine stuff about new facilities opening up, and/or existing facilities in place, where wrestling is going on (even as recently as Saturday). I have not gotten a lot of details about that from those people who run those facilities. I’d like to help them put more money into their own pockets by being a publicity source for all of them. That’s hard to do when they don’t reach out to me, and — to be sure — me not having a kid wrestle means I don’t hear things through the grapevine. There are a few parents out there who are helpful in this regard — and I’m grateful for that, as I’m grumpy about the fact that I’m not hearing about it sooner.

Lots of new content coming once the season begins, too. On Thanksgiving, you’ll see some hints of some of what’s to come.

I covered wrestling for 15 years up north and "retired" in 2011. But as I thought I had in 1992, I couldn't stay away. Started Northeast Florida Matmen in 2013, Northwest Florida Matmen in 2015. New initiative this year is to create a space on my sites where ALL Florida results can be stored, searched, reviewed and used by my readers, with NO COST TO THEM.
