WEEKI WACHEE — #5 Buchholz placed fifth out of 16 teams in the Weeki Wachee Duals last weekend, going 6-2 in what was the far more loaded pool of the two created, with losses only to Pasco-area teams Hernando (53-21) and Wesley Chapel (42-32).
During the course of the tournament, the Bobcats had a couple of early close duals, winning 40-39 over Citrus in their first dual and 45-33 over Belleview, but got rolling a bit later, with a 57-18 win over The Villages and 60-15 over Carrollwood Day School of Tampa, plus a Saturday win over Nature Coast.
In the fifth-place match, Buchholz defeated Land O’Lakes, 48-36, for the Bobcats’ sixth win. William Green-Church (120), Gant Moore (138), Dylan Lewis (182), Armando Acosta (195) and Aaron Menden (285) all had falls in that dual for the Bobcats.
In the seven duals of the weekend with legible results, several Buchholz wrestlers had opportunities to shine. Acosta, competing through the weekend at both 195 and 220, was the only unbeaten Bobcat, going a legible 7-0 with six pins and one forfeit victory.
Two other wrestlers had just one loss for Buchholz, and both of them took those losses while wrestling a weight up in a one-time setting, either to get a match or to wrestle the other team’s strongest wrestler. Bryan Perkins (106/113) was 6-1 with two pins, losing only to Carrollwood Day in order to get a match, while Gant Moore (138/145) had three pins and a major, losing only to Wesley Chapel’s Emmanuel Torres.
