Dec 8 Dual Recap: Palatka-Villages

Northeast Florida Matmen staff report

PALATKA — Wrestling with half the weight classes going empty was very difficult for the host Panthers Thursday night in their dual with The Villages.

Fortunately for Palatka, they’ll have a little bit of time to get some more bodies into the lineup, as the Panthers have four weeks off after the 45-24 loss to Villages, a 1A-Region 2 and former District 5 rival.

Palatka (3-3 in duals) got falls at four of their seven staffed weights, with a first-period pin from Trevor Davis at 113 (1:58), late fall from Isaiah Beauboeuf at 138 (5:39), a 56-second stick from Bryan Smith at 220 and fall in 3:02 for Ira Dixon at 285.

The Panthers are now off from competition until January 10, when they’ll host St. Augustine.

I covered wrestling for 15 years up north and "retired" in 2011. But as I thought I had in 1992, I couldn't stay away. Started Northeast Florida Matmen in 2013, Northwest Florida Matmen in 2015. New initiative this year is to create a space on my sites where ALL Florida results can be stored, searched, reviewed and used by my readers, with NO COST TO THEM.
