MS Natl Holiday Duals Day 2 Recap

Northeast Florida Matmen staff report

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — While most youth wrestlers in the area were taking part in the I Own Florida series at Flagler Palm Coast today, Yulee Middle School’s Kevin Beverly went the other way on I-95 this past weekend.

Beverly linked up with the New Jersey Power wrestling team, competing at the VACW Middle School National Holiday Duals tournament at the Virginia Beach Convention Center Friday and Saturday.

On the second day of competition, the Power had six duals all told, going 1-5 in the Bronze pool of bracketed competition.

Beverly had wins in two of those six duals, with a fall in 1:55 over VAWA Blue’s Luke Yarnell while competing at 180 pounds. That was the Power’s second dual of the day, a 38-24 loss.

Later in the afternoon, Beverly pinned Terps MS Maniac’s James Parana in 1:18, as part of the Power’s only dual win of the day, 50-12.

Beverly lost by fall to Maurer Coughlin’s Blake Victor in 3:28 in the first dual of the day (a 32-27 Power loss), to Team California Black’s Ian Richardson in 1:48 in rd 3 (team loss 47-16), to Team Utah’s Kyler Boren in 54 seconds (team loss 39-21) and to NCWAY National Team’s Timothy Peterson in 1:28 (team loss 48-30).

I covered wrestling for 15 years up north and "retired" in 2011. But as I thought I had in 1992, I couldn't stay away. Started Northeast Florida Matmen in 2013, Northwest Florida Matmen in 2015. New initiative this year is to create a space on my sites where ALL Florida results can be stored, searched, reviewed and used by my readers, with NO COST TO THEM.
