Dual States Post

This was just posted by Mike Crowder of Lincoln to TFWR. I am copying it and presenting it without my own comments, except to reiterate what Coach Crowder posted there — this is a starting point, not an ending one.

Detailed Information: This proposal is for the proposed Dual State Wrestling Tournament. These dates are in place as if the meet was in place for the 2016-17 Season

Planning Purposes:
Each district, at its annual District Planning Meeting will decide how, when and where it will conduct its District Dual Meet Team Championship tournament competition. The District will inform the FHSAA of the method of the competition, the dates and locations of the meets or tourney. The date must be before week 28 – on or by Jan 7 for the coming calendar year which would be four weeks prior to the current individual district meet. District competition can be either of the following:
a. single day or two-day dual meet round robin or bracketed tournament, or
b. separate dual meets at different sites and different dates.
The final date for determining a District dual meet team champion is Saturday, of week 27-on or by Jan 7 for the coming calendar. Each District will forward to the FHSAA the results of its District dual meet team championship tournament. Also, any team can decide to NOT participate in the Dual Meet tournament but still compete in the State Series competition for its individual wrestlers.
The four (4) District dual meet team champions and (4) Runners-up in each District – Districts 1-4, 5-8, 9-12 and 13-16 – will compete in the Dual Regional Tournament.

Regional Tournament Meet
The Regional Champions and Runner-ups will be decided week 28 Jan 8-14. On Tuesday of that week Jan 10th the 4 Duals of the first round will take place to determine the 4 regional semifinal teams. The regional Semi finals and finals will take place on Thursday Jan 12th
The district champions will be seeded in the bracket to ensure a true semifinal. The location of the 4 matches will be determined per FHSAA regulations by position on the bracket. Tuesday weigh-ins 5:00pm, Wrestling 6:00pm. On Thursday of that week the Semifinalist will meet in a single central location to determine the Regional Champion and Runner-up. Thursday weigh-ins 5:00pm Wrestling 6:00pm.
The State Dual Meet Team Championship Tournament will take place over a single weekend. It will be held week 29 of the current calendar (Jan 20th-21st for the 2016-17 calendar).
The format of the state bracket:
a: Should be either seeded out the week leading up to the event to ensure a true final, or
b: Should use the current team event brackets used by the FHSAA split up by region.

On Friday and Saturday, of week 29 (Jan 20th-21st for the 2016-17 calendar), the 4 Regional Champions and 4 Runner-ups from all of the three classes will meet at a single site for the State Championship. The site should be in the Central part of the state along the I-4 corridor from Daytona Beach to Tampa/St Petersburg. A venue with the ability to hold 6 mats and all 24 teams competing would be optimal. Should a single site not be available an alternative would be to separate each division to its own high school gym large enough to hold 2 mats and seat 8 teams and their fan base.
The Schedule will be as follows: (This format is in line with the current regional IBT format)
Friday – Weigh-ins, 12 noon; 2:00pm Preliminaries, Wrestle backs (First Round) follows (2 Mats per division)
Saturday – Weigh-ins, 10 a.m.; 12 noon Semifinals, Consi Semi follows (2 Mats per division); 6pm Consolation/Championship Finals (2 mats per division).
We will wrestle the event out to 3rd place to maximize wrestling time for the weekend and ensure a full house for the dual championship finals.
The tournament will provide the standard team event awards. Team trophies for the top two squads in each division and medals to the individuals on the top two teams in each division.>>

I covered wrestling for 15 years up north and "retired" in 2011. But as I thought I had in 1992, I couldn't stay away. Started Northeast Florida Matmen in 2013, Northwest Florida Matmen in 2015. New initiative this year is to create a space on my sites where ALL Florida results can be stored, searched, reviewed and used by my readers, with NO COST TO THEM.
