Northeast Florida Matmen staff report
HARMONY — Going to the Longhorn Christmas Duals for the third weekend of December has felt, at times, like a lump of coal as well as a sugarplum for the Terry Parker wrestlers.
The Braves get the sugarplum of mat time against out-of-town wrestlers in an unfamiliar environment, and the lump of coal sometimes comes in the results. That was true last weekend, as Parker went 0-7 on the day, placing 14th out of 15 teams in the event.
Parker took losses to Boone (66-15) and East River (60-18) on Friday, with Landon Dains (170) and Evan Jefferson (285) the only Braves to win twice. Dains had a decision against Boone, while Boakai Kanneh (182) picked up the Braves’ only fall on the day.
On Saturday, the Braves fell in pool play to Cypress Creek (63-18), Oviedo (52-12), Celebration (42-29) and Rockledge (72-6), and lost in the 13th place match to Osceola (Pinellas), 66-9.
Both of the Braves’ wins versus Cypress Creek were forfeits, but Kanneh had a fall against Oviedo, and Jason Reed (152) and Dains picked up pins against Celebration. Dains also had a fall for Rockledge’s only points.
Against Osceola, Reed won by decision and Dains by fall. For the weekend, Dains was 6-1, while Kanneh was 4-3.
Terry Parker is now off until its Army Duals on January 13-14.
