#NextLevel: December 22

The Wilkes Open is described in eastern circles as the Rose Bowl of college wrestling. Thursday, Rhode Island College found out the path of a Division III school to the Rose Bowl is a daunting task.

Three RIC wrestlers found their way to wins in the event. Unfortunately, Zach Ford (Flagler Palm Coast ’13) was not one of those wrestlers. Ford went 0-2 in the tournament, competing at 157 for the Anchormen and wrestling against two Division I competitors.

After a first-round bye, Ford took a 13-10 loss to University of Buffalo’s Kobe Garrehy, dropping him into the consolation rounds, where he lost by technical fall, 20-2, to Virginia’s Michael Murphy.

I covered wrestling for 15 years up north and "retired" in 2011. But as I thought I had in 1992, I couldn't stay away. Started Northeast Florida Matmen in 2013, Northwest Florida Matmen in 2015. New initiative this year is to create a space on my sites where ALL Florida results can be stored, searched, reviewed and used by my readers, with NO COST TO THEM.
