KISSIMMEE — If there’s any doubt on whether #2 Fleming Island is ready for Saturday’s IBT portion of the Kowboy Invitational, just look at how the Golden Eagles treated Friday.
Fleming Island rolled through three dual opponents in Friday’s first day of the event, with one-sided wins over Lake Nona (70-6), the host Kowboys (44-22) and Fort Myers (52-15).
The Golden Eagles (8-0) had nine pins against Lake Nona, with 13 match wins in the dual. Briar Jackson (106), Deandre Demus (120), Jacob Sandoval (126), Trace Insalaco (132), Ben Sann (160), Jason Davis (182), Ryan Smenda (195), Brandyne Mackey (220) and Jose Concepcion (285) all winning by fall. Joseph Donato (113), Tyler Williams (145), Paul Detwiler (152) and Jalyn Robinson (170) each had decisions.
Against Osceola, Fleming Island actually trailed from 126 through 170, but then roared back for the win. Jackson, Davis, Smenda and Mackey all won by pins, with Sandoval and Robinson taking majors and Detwiler and Concepcion winning by decision.
Fort Myers picked off four wins within the dual, but the rest was all Eagles, with Jackson, Detwiler, Robinson, Davis, Mackey and Concepcion taking pins. Insalaco added a major decision and Vince Hauser (138) and Smenda picked up decisions.
We’ll update this post when we get Creekside’s dual results.
