Coach Jim Reape on Merring: “Chris had a great off-season, wrestled very well at Disney and at Virginia Tech, making finals of camp. He looked strong through the fall, but has fought the injury bug for a good bit of the season and has dealt with the adversity well. Staying on top of therapy and as active as possible. He has wrestled hurt for the team and generally been a great example. It appears he is getting healthier and finding his stride. With three weeks left and a clear goal, he can now really block out the pain and finish his career on a quest for a state title.”
Parents: Roger Merring and Stephanie Merring.

The Pacesetter feature will be a recurring weekly feature through the end of the season in the second week of March. Have a nomination you’d like us to spotlight? Wrestlers must have exemplary record on the mat and character and sportsmanship off it as well. Drop us a line at nefloridamatmen@gmail.com with your nomination. Thank you for your support!

I covered wrestling for 15 years up north and "retired" in 2011. But as I thought I had in 1992, I couldn't stay away. Started Northeast Florida Matmen in 2013, Northwest Florida Matmen in 2015. New initiative this year is to create a space on my sites where ALL Florida results can be stored, searched, reviewed and used by my readers, with NO COST TO THEM.
