Cochran goes 3-2 at Fargo in freestyle

FARGO, ND — North Florida’s lone representative in the USA Wrestling Junior Nationals freestyle tournament, held at the FargoDome on Monday, was Tate rising senior Jacob Cochran.

Cochran was 3-2 in the tournament, with one front-side victory and two in the consolation rounds. (Side note: Matmen is still a little unclear on the difference between VFA and VSU in FS/GR scoring, but will present the results as reported).

Cochran opened his tournament by defeating Oklahoma’s Cruz Aguilar by VFA in 2:46, with the score 8-6, in the round of 32. In the round of 16, Cochran fell to Illinois’ Anthony Talamonti, by VSU1 in 3:20, with the score 16-6.

Cochran had three matches in the consi rounds. In consi round 16 #2, he had no trouble with Illinois’ Malakye Rodriguez, winning by VSU1 in 5:46, with the final score 19-8. Cochran then downed, in consi rd 8-1, Iowa’s Jarod Kadel, by VFA in 3:35, with the final score 6-5. Cochran’s tournament run came to an end in consi round 8-2 against Illinois’ Justin Cardani, where he lost by VSU in 2:09, with the score 10-0.

Junior Greco-Roman competition will take place later in the week.
